Captain Jack’s Goodtime Tavern, a popular waterfront bar and grill situated in Sodus Point, New York, is renowned for its relaxed ambiance, live musical performances, Buffalo Bills viewing parties, and stunning views of Sodus Bay.
The establishment boasts a comprehensive bar offering an extensive selection of craft beers, complemented by American pub fare such as seafood, steaks, and sandwiches. Additionally, it features outdoor waterfront seating, televisions, and takeout options.
In addition, you will discover an upstairs Tiki bar, a gift shop, and a convenience store. Furthermore, there is a full-service events center that formerly housed the Dolphin nightclub. The Dolphin hosted renowned entertainers such as Meat Loaf, The Edgar Winter Group, Joe Cocker, Tommy Tutone, Rick Derringer, Badfinger, and many others.
With a rich history that traces its origins to a Prohibition-era speakeasy, Captain Jack’s Goodtime Tavern has transformed into a contemporary destination that caters to both tourists and locals alike.
History
1920-1949 The business originally operated as Joe’s Place, built on the water’s edge using rock and 55-gallon drums to support the building’s foundation on the narrow point. The menu offerings included hot dogs, fish, and steaks. It is believed the restaurant also served as a "Speak Easy" during prohibition, with smuggled liquor coming in from Canada on boats called "rumrunners".
1949-1982 The restaurant and bar reopens after a fire as The Dolphin, with a portion of the restaurant operating as Lippy’s in the 1950s. In the late 1960s thru early 1980s The Dolphin’s music hall hosted popular concerts that brought huge crowds and big names to Sodus Point, like Joe Cocker, The Edgar Winter Group, Badfinger, Rick Derringer, and Meatloaf.
1960-1993 The establishment operates for two decades as Jack’s Driftwood Lounge.
1983-1986 Captain Kelley’s opens, with the space converted to a restaurant and motel.
1986 The Sodus Point Fish & Crab House opens with expanded waterfront real estate, adding new foundations, decks, and docks.
2006-2024 Captain Jack’s Good Time Tavern is transformed from a small pool hall to the Sodus Point destination it is today.
2024-Present The new owners of Captain Jack’s, Jennifer and Dewayne Evans of Sodus Point, expand the Captain Jack’s footprint to include Sodus Bay Outfitters as The Shoppe at Jack's.
